John M. Brown, President of Professional Club Management, Inc., uniquely blends his experience with the high standards of country club and commercial club tennis service with over 21 years of hands-on fitness operations and sales. As the chief operative of PCM, John offers its clients his personal care and attention.
Prior to graduating from the University of Kansas, John started working in the club business during his summers at the Carriage Club and KC Country Club in Kansas City, MO. After college John toured the country extensively on the professional tennis satellite circuit prior to joining International Fitness Centers as a Head Tennis Professional. He quickly became a club General Manager and then promoted to the Director of seven clubs in the Kansas City area.
After five years with International Fitness, John joined Tennis Corporation of America (now TCA). Completing the TCA management training program, John first took an assignment managing tennis and sales operations of four clubs in Syracuse, N.Y.. He then extensively traveled to TCA clubs, trouble-shooting in club operations and training managers and sales staffs.
In 1989 John became a National Consultant for Weider Franchising, Inc., for which he managed and visited Gym locations throughout the world. Reporting directly to the Weider Health & Fitness Chairman, he was responsible for all franchisee education and operations and acted as a legal liaison with franchise attorneys.
John founded Professional Club Management, Inc. in 1992. PCM has assisted in the management of over 80 clubs in the U.S. and South America, and has developed equity positions in ten facilities. John has advised in over 60 buy/sell club industry transactions, and serves on 15 club boards of directors.
As of September 2008, Mr. Brown has been retained by Global Retail Company, a division of the Al Rajhi Investment Group Company, a double digit billion dollar a year, multi-national conglomerate, doing business in banking, retail, petro chemical, infrastructure, real estate, and building materials. Mr. Brown is charged with the development of 500 clubs throughout the Middle East, primarily the (MENA) region. Mr. Brown is responsible for branding, brand selection, site selections, development, hireling and supervision of all upper level management staff.
A frequent speaker at IHRSA and other club industry conventions, John has authored numerous industry publication articles. Noted for his personal propensity to tackle difficult club-related problems, he espouses a style of management that stays tuned in to the employees, the members and the marketplace.
